چکیده
RGM: rapidly growing mycobacteria INTRODUCTION Rapidly growing mycobacteria (RGM) are defined as nontuberculous mycobacteria that show growth within 7 days. RGM are widely distributed in the environment, and several studies have identified RGM in tap water. The ability of RGM to form biofilm serves to increase virulence and augment their resistance to disinfection. In immunocompetent patients, cutaneous infection occurs at sites of piercing trauma. We present an unusual clinical variant of a cutaneous RGM infection caused by Mycobacterium fortuitum in an elderly man who presented with cutaneous infection at the access location of his cosmetic endovascular radiofrequency venous ablation.

Mycobacterium fortuitum Peritonitis Associated with Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis
Runyon group IV atypical mycobacteria, Mycobacterium fortuitum, is an environmental organism and is capable of producing a variety of clinical infections such as cutaneous infection, abscess and pulmonary and ocular infection. Rarely, it has been a documented cause of peritonitis in patients receiving continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). We report a case of M. fortuitum peritonitis...
متن کاملMolecular Identification and Conventional Susceptibility Testing of Iranian Clinical Mycobacterium fortuitum Isolates
Objective(s) Rapidly growing mycobacteria (RGM) are capable of producing diseases in humans. Since mycobacteria vary in their susceptibility, precise identification is critical for adoption of correct drug therapy. The main aim of this study was molecular identification and evaluation of antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of Iranian clinically isolated Myocbacterium fortuitum. Materials and...
متن کاملPathogenicity of Mycobacterium fortuitum and Mycobacterium smegmatis to goldfish, Carassius auratus.
Despite the ubiquitous presence of atypical mycobacteria in the environment and the potential risk of infection in humans and animals, the pathogenesis of diseases caused by infection with atypical mycobacteria has been poorly characterized. In this study, goldfish, Carassius auratus were infected either with the rapidly growing fish pathogen, Mycobacterium fortuitum or with another rapidly gro...
متن کاملExogenous lipoid pneumonia complicated by Mycobacterium fortuitum and Aspergillus fumigatus infections.
We report the case of a nonimmunocompromised female patient, who developed exogenous lipoid pneumonia with Mycobacterium fortuitum infection at diagnosis, later followed by Aspergillus fumigatus infection. The association of exogenous lipoid pneumonia with atypical mycobacterial infection is uncommon but well-recognized, but, to our knowledge, association with A. fumigatus infection has not pre...
متن کاملSecondary atypical mycobacterial infection after peritoneal catheter removal.
Dear Editors, Atypical mycobacterial infection of peritoneal catheter (PC) exit site is occasionally seen, especially in warm and humid localities. Secondary atypical mycobacterial infection may also arise after removal of PC and should be suspected in cases of non-healing wound infection despite appropriate treatment of primary bacterial exit site infection (ESI) and after prolonged antibiotic...
